“On the first day of Christmas my neighbor “M” sent to me… a basket of deliciousness – my new drink of choice for morning and night,” wrote Oprah Winfrey, one of the most influential people in America, in the caption of a video on Instagram plugging a company newly backed by the Duchess of Sussex.
The clip shows Oprah, 66, rummaging through packs of premixed, vegan instant coffee including a matcha “Superlatte”, a chai Superlatte and a turmeric-infused Superlatte. She proceeds to prepare a frothing mug of yellow liquid, adding hot water to a powder containing “superfood” adaptogens, coconut cream, dried oat milk, monk fruit, mushrooms and probiotics. “Happy holidays, y’all,” she signs off.
The brand is Clevr Blends, a small Californian start-up based in Santa Barbara, near where Meghan 39, currently lives in the wealthy hilltop neighbourhood of Montecito with Prince Harry, 36, and their son Archie, 18 months. The female-run coffee company has a team of just six and was co-founded by chief executive Hannah Mendoza and chief operating officer Roger Coppola.
The adaptogenic herbs the products contain are said to reduce stress and enhance focus: Clevr claims that they promote “steady, long-term energy” and “effortless wellness”.
